Course Description
COURSE CONTENTS

Course contents: Digital logic gates, truth tables, basic structure, application of Boolean algebra theorems.Simplification of logic functions, logic diagram of minterms, conversion from BCD code to Gray code.4-bit adder and subtractor with carry, their structure and operation.Combinational multiplexer circuits, operation analysis, implementation of Boolean functions using multiplexers, design and implementation of sequential circuits through the construction of functional description diagrams.Binary ripple counters, state sequence, schematic diagram, binary counter with parallel loading.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

  • recognize and use basic logic gates (AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, XNOR) in combinational circuits
  • design and implement simple and complex combinational circuits, such as decodes, multiplexors, adders, etc
  • implement and test logic circuits
  • use hardware (breadboards, logic ICs, cabling) with accuracy and safety
  • describe the results of experiments and detect possible errors in design or implementation
  • relate theory with practice, understanding the application of Logic Design to real digital systems
ASSESSMENT

Assessment: Oral exam at the end of the semester. Lab exercises (every week or every second week), which contribute 10%–20% to the final grade.
